Since joining 9NEWS in November 2011, Brandon Rittiman has led the newsroom’s political coverage to five national Walter Cronkite Awards for excellence in political journalism and factchecking.
He hosts and produces Balance of Power, a weekly politics and public affairs program which airs Sunday morning at 8:45am, just before NBC's Meet the Press and also anchors newscasts on 9NEWS. In 2016, both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton gave interviews on the show.
Brandon has helped inform Coloradans through good times and bad. On July 20, 2012, he was the first television reporter to provide a live report from the Aurora movie theater shooting, in which 12 people were murdered.
His coverage that night and of the response the following days earned recognition with a regional Emmy award for continuing coverage.
Before moving to Denver, Brandon worked as News Director for KUNR-FM, the National Public Radio affiliate in Reno, NV, where he covered politics and other topics for a national audience.
His broadcast journalism career also includes reporting and anchoring for KTVN (CBS) in Reno, NV, and KGNS-TV (NBC) in Laredo, Texas, where he regularly reported on the ongoing drug war on both sides of the US-Mexico border.
Rittiman graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University.
He is happily married. Outside of his work for 9NEWS, Brandon captains a rec-league ice hockey team called the Mountaineers (he plays offense.) A San Jose native, you may spot him wearing teal when the Sharks play at the Pepsi Center.
Brandon enjoys Colorado’s craft beer and spirits—he’s one of many homebrewers in the 9NEWS family.
He loves Colorado for its mountains. You may see him at the top of a 14’er with his camera in hand: he occasionally puts his art photography on exhibit.
