Brandon Rittiman joined 9NEWS in November 2011 as political reporter, covering all levels of government in Colorado.

He co-hosts and produces Balance of Power, a weekly politics and public affairs program which air's before NBC's Meet the Press.

He also leads the station's Truth Test series, which won the national Cronkite/Jackson prize for Fact Checking Political Messages in both the 2014 and 2012 campaign cycles.

In addition, he helped lead 9NEWS to a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Political journalism for the station's extensive coverage of the 2014 campaign, including debates and an interactive voter guide.

On July 20, 2012, Brandon was the first television reporter to provide live coverage from the scene of the Aurora movie theater shooting, in which 12 people were murdered.

His coverage that night and of the response the following days earned recognition with a regional Emmy award for continuing coverage.

Before moving to Denver, Brandon was News Director for KUNR-FM, the National Public Radio affiliate in Reno, NV where he covered politics and other topics for a national audience.

His broadcast journalism career also includes time reporting and anchoring for KTVN (CBS) in Reno, NV, and KGNS-TV (NBC) in Laredo, Texas, where he regularly reported on the ongoing drug war on both sides of the US-Mexico border.

Rittiman graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism & Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

Brandon is happily married. Outside of his work for 9NEW, Brandon has a passion for art photography.

He also enjoys playing and watching ice hockey. A San Jose native, he's been a Sharks fan since the team was added to the NHL.

He's one of many homebrewers in the 9NEWS family. You can also find him in the mountains backpacking and skiing.
