Stash the Skis, Uncover Carefree Summer in Telluride
Come summer, the world-class ski slopes of Telluride turn verdant green. Winter’s runoff unveils a new kind of playground. Tucked into a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado, Telluride and neighboring Mountain Village offer summer visitors an eclectic mix of culture, adventure, and history.
Outdoor Playground
Hundreds of miles of pristine hiking and biking trails for all levels start right from town…or take the free gondola to the top and explore trails throughout the ski area. Wildflowers typically are in full bloom around mid-July.
More adventurous? Take a horseback ride, choosing from scenic afternoon tours to overnight trips. Prefer clubs? The championship course at the Telluride Golf Club – sitting at an altitude of more than 9,000 feet – is one of the highest courses in the country, with the game to prove it: golf balls travel up to 15 percent further than at sea level.
With a record snow season, rafting and kayaking will be in full force this summer. Take a guided boating trip or fly fishing outing with local experts on the Colorado, Animas, Gunnison, or Gold Medal Dolores River, or enjoy the San Miguel River, which winds its course right through town.
Festival Frenzy
Known as the “Festival Capital of the Southwest,” Telluride has an event lined up nearly every weekend in the summertime. Click here to go to the Telluride Event Calendar.
