The Ah Haa Arts School and Wilkinson Public Library each offer smaller spaces with both indoor and outdoor options.

Although well-known as a mecca for festivals, concerts, and events, Telluride provides an abundance of nature trails, winding rivers and 14,000 ft. mountain peaks to entertain outdoor adventurers of all levels. Summer brings warmer weather, the sounds of water falls and the smell of wildflowers to the Telluride region. Winter’s runoff unveils a new kind of playground, with the possibilities as limitless as the peaks are high.

Telluride/Mountain Village are located above 8,500 ft. in elevation and we recommend taking precautions such as ample drinking water, sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and layered clothing to accommodate the varying temperatures during the day. Trails Galore
Find hiking and biking trails for all levels right from the Town of Telluride, or take the free gondola to the top and explore trails throughout the ski area. Trails vary in difficulty and length, with some designated for bikes, horses, and jeeps. Wildflowers typically are in full bloom around mid-July.

Giddy Up

Greens at 9,300 feet
The championship course at the Telluride Golf Club (http://www.tellurideskiresort.com) is one of the highest courses in the country with the game to prove it - golf balls travel up to 15 percent further than at sea level. The course generally remains open from Memorial Day Weekend through early October. |

Shops range from fine art galleries and antique shops to fine jewelry stores, women’s boutiques, and outdoor/sporting stores. Visitors often spend hours in the galleries alone which feature everything from fine to funky.

There’s no better way to unwind after a long day of shopping or exploring than by hitting a spa or salon for a little R&R. Telluride also has a wealth of certified yoga and Pilates instructors.

Historic Recognition
Take a step back in time by visiting the Telluride Historical Museum (http://www.telluridemuseum.org) located in a restored 1896 miners’ hospital. The museum serves as the cultural and historical anchor in town with exhibits covering the Ute Indians to the miners and ski resort pioneers. The museum also hosts fireside chats and features historic walking tours available via cell phone, MP3 player, or minidisk player.

| In Telluride, you’ll find active adventures for all ages. We encourage you to leave the remote and video games at home, and explore the great outdoors.
A great place for parents to start is Telluride Town Park located at the east end of town. The park features the following amenities perfect for entertaining the little ones:
• Concrete skate park
• Outdoor swimming pool
• Two playgrounds
• Fishing pond
• Tennis courts
• Ball fields
• Horseshoe pits
The town of Telluride features a paved bike path from town heading west which runs for two miles along the Valley Floor. To the east, towards Bridal Veil Falls, there is a family-friendly walking trail that starts from Town Park. With easy access right from downtown - a local’s favorite nature hike is Bear Creek Trails which offers a mellow, well-maintained trail hike for those ages 5 and up. Bear Creek Trail is 2.5 miles each way and has an elevation gain of 1040 ft.
For parents looking for even more adventure, we recommend the free scenic gondola ride up to Mountain Village where you will find the Adventure Rock, a giant man-made boulder located across from the Telluride Conference Center which provides climbing routes for all ages and abilities.

The Junior Ranger program at Bear Creek Canyon (www.telluride-co.gov) is a free summer hike, led by a park ranger, which teaches 4-12 year olds about plants, wildlife, and environment. Kids become certified Junior Rangers at the completion of the program.
The San Juan Outdoor School (www.sanjuanoutdoorschool.com) is a full-service outfitter offering year-round adventures for kids of all ages (adults, too!) including rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, backpacking, backcountry skiing, and snowshoeing. Through Telluride Ski Resort (www.tellurideskiresort.com), you can sign-up for the Telluride Kids’ Camp (ages 4-12) featuring hiking, biking, fishing, rock climbing, and more. Day care is available for younger children.
For a more historic and cultural experience in Telluride, make history an interactive experience with a self-guided walking tour, created by the Telluride Historical Museum (visit www.telluridemuseum.org to download individual tours).
The Ah Haa School for the Arts (www.ahhaa.org) encourages young imaginations to bloom with year-round classes and art camps taught by local and visiting artists. The school offers sing-alongs, painting, sculpture, jewelry making, and a lot more.
Telluride Rock and Roll Academy (www.rockandrollacademy.com) lets kids unleash their inner rock star, with lessons ranging from guitar and piano to drums and vocal. The facility also offers an audio and video recording studio.
Telluride Dance Academy and Movement Center (www.telluridedanceacademy.org) features summertime dance camps with ballet, jazz, hip hop, tumbling, and gymnastics. The school offers cheerleading dance camps and ballet intensives as well. |
