HOW, AS A PARENT, DO YOU KNOW WHICH LEVEL OF CARE YOUR CHILD MIGHT NEED?

Research has demonstrated that placing an individual in the appropriate level of care increases the chances of success. Most parents would not feel comfortable making this decision alone and should seek the help of trained professionals by calling a substance abuse treatment agency. Once the level of care is determined (usually over the phone), the next step is setting an appointment and getting your son or daughter to the agency that provides the appropriate level of care for a formal evaluation, sometimes called an assessment. Substance abuse treatment programs licensed by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD) administer comprehensive assessments that help identify problematic issues, which become the foundation for the goals for treatment.

If you are concerned about where your child will go for treatment services, it is always an option to call the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division and speak with their Coordinator of Adolescent Services to get a sense of which program might be the best fit for your son or daughter. Matching a youth to the right program can be an important element in the formula for success. Some programs utilize a more outdoor, recreational approach, some are more spiritually based, some may be more confrontational and these are important issues to know about when picking a treatment agency for your child. There are programs that are co-ed and some that are only for girls.
