THE CROW CANYON ARCHAEOLOGICAL CENTER is an innovative leader in advancing knowledge of the human experience through archaeological research, education programs, and collaboration with American Indians. Since 1983, Crow Canyon researchers have studied the rich history of the ancestral Pueblo Indians (the Anasazi) who inhabited the canyons and mesas of the Mesa Verde region over 700 years ago.
Crow Canyon's campus-based programs incorporate current research findings from field excavations and allow you to participate in the actual research process. The Center's current research site at the Goodman Point Unit of Hovenweep National Monument was the first archaeological site ever protected by the federal government.
You can excavate this summer beside archaeologists and educators during one of Crow Canyon's archaeology adventuresAdult Research Week or Family Archaeology Week. Or if you're visiting for a day, Crow Canyon's Day Tour introduces you to the history of the ancestral Pueblo Indians with hands-on activities and a visit to the excavation site. The Day Tour is a perfect complement to your visit to nearby archaeological attractions, including Mesa Verde National Park, the Anasazi Heritage Center, Lowry Pueblo, Hovenweep National Monument, and Aztec Ruins National Monument.
Crow Canyon's three-week High School Field School and one-week summer camps offer a great way for teens to try their hands at archaeology. Crow Canyon's commitment to involving American Indians in many of its programs as students, teachers, scholars, and consultants adds greatly to your educational experience.
Please check Crow Canyon's web site for information on the Center's programs and research.
