Festivities for the free event start at 6 p.m., with the official light ceremony scheduled for 6:45 p.m.

On-air personalities Mark Koebrich, Corey Rose and Belen De Leon along with Mayor Michael

Hancock will flip the gigantic switch that turns on the vibrant holiday lights display for the first time.

This year’s musical entertainment includes the University of Colorado’s oldest A Cappella group, the CU Buffoons and the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus.

The Salvation Army will also be in attendance handing out free hot chocolate and cookies.

Can't make it? The live broadcast airs on 9NEWS and 9NEWS.com at 6:30 p.m.

New this year is a winter festival called Light On! that will be held just east of the lighting ceremony at Civic Center Park starting at 3 p.m.

The festival features food trucks, holiday inspired cocktails, an interactive coffee station and a cash bar beer garden.

The light display includes more than 585 energy-efficient LED lights and 2,000 feet of LED rope, making it one of the most popular holiday lighting displays in the region.

And be sure to mark your calendars for the 9NEWS Parade of Lights, which returns to Denver on December 1 and 2.
