Broncos are the 3rd-worst team in NFL power rankings
The Denver Broncos (3-9) are ranked No. 30 in USA TODAY’s NFL power rankings this week, the third-lowest ranking in the league. Only the New York Giants (2-10, No. 31) and Cleveland Browns (0-12, No. 32) are ranked lower.
It’s a big drop for the Broncos, who started the season 3-1 and were ranked as high as No. 4 in USA TODAY’s power rankings earlier this year. Here’s the commentary with this week’s ranking:
Defense ranked fifth yet has given up more points than every team except Indianapolis and most TD passes (26). #FreeFlyZone
Denver has lost eight straight games, its longest losing streak in 50 years — longer than the worst streaks during the Josh McDaniels era.
Speaking of McDaniels, he was fired after starting 3-9 in 2010. That was in his second season, though, and there were other factors (such as getting caught cheating) that went into him being relieved.
The Broncos won’t be firing current coach Vance Joseph, at least not right now. Denver is expected to make several changes to its staff after the conclusion of the regular season — there are four games remaining.
