'Hamilton' tickets go on sale Monday

Ticket buyers and ticket scammers are preparing for the Denver run of Hamilton. If a seller says they'll email the tickets as a PDF to download - it's fake.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts says Monday will be "a historic day" in Colorado when tickets for smash hit musical Hamilton go on sale to the general public.

The Tony Award-winning musical will make a stop at the Buell Theatre from February 27 through April 1. With tickets expected to sell out quickly, the DCPA is issuing a warning to be on the lookout for scammers.

"We have safeguards in place to try to keep tickets in the hands of those people who actually want to attend our performances," DCPA Vice President of Information Technology Yovani Pina said on the DCPA website.

To be sure you're getting authentic tickets, make sure you're buying your tickets at Hamilton.DenverCenter.org.

From 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday morning, a "virtual waiting room" will open on Hamilton.DenverCenter.org that will guarantee buyers a place in line. At 10 a.m., when tickets go on sale, everyone in the virtual waiting room will be assigned a random spot in line. People who log on after 10 a.m. will be given a spot at the back of the line.

"The whole point of this new system is to ensure that the patron purchasing experience online is as smooth and as efficient as possible," Pina said on the DPCA website.

Ticket prices range from $75 to $165, with a select number of $545 premium seats available for each performance. DCPA has set a maximum limit of four tickets per order.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts is offering several tips for Hamilton ticket buyers:

  • Create an account now at DenverCenter.org (if you don't already have one)
  • Have your username and password ready
  • Write your account information down on paper and have it ready (just in case)
  • Hamilton.DenverCenter.org is the ONLY authorized ticket provider
  • Most tickets range from $75 to $165 (a select number of $545 premium seats will be available), if a seller asks for more than $165, something is probably wrong
  • There are three places to buy tickets: DenverCenter.org, by phone at 303.893.4100 and in-person at the lobby of the Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex
  • There is no print-at-home ticket option. Tickets will be mailed or left at will call.
  • If a seller says they'll email the tickets as a PDF to download - it's FAKE

In addition to single-ticket sales, there will be a lottery for 40 Orchestra-level seats at each performance. Those lucky enough to win will be able to snag tickets for $10.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

An immigrant from the West Indies, Hamilton became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. The musical features a Grammy and Tony-winning score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway.
