It's hard to imagine a story of unconditional love and eternal hope would center around a program mainly used to give people directions from point A to point B, but Lion nails it.
Based on the true story of Saroo Brierley, Lion follows the life of a 5-year-old boy who lost his way on a train in India and eventually found a permanent home with a couple in Tasmania.
Saroo (Dev Patel) loves his adopted family but can't stop thinking about his mother and siblings in India that authorities could not find. Thanks to the technology of Google Earth, he is able to create a search radius - a painstaking task that might lead him home.
But is could also destroy the life he has built for the last twenty years.
Good luck not crying (or at least letting out one sniffle) with strong performances by Patel and Nicole Kidman that hit way too close to home sometimes. The film showcases the true meaning of family and the love of a child and parent.
Lion is currently making its festival rounds, last played at the 39th Annual Denver Film Festival. If there a screening at a later date, it is not one to miss.
