What do you get when you mix a dentist, a theatrical production, and a strip club?

You get a new play called “The Fifth Dentist in Search of Sid’s Treasure: a Tribute to the Sultan of Striptease”.

Long time Denver residents may remember Sid King.

For 35 years he was the proud owner of “Sid King’s Crazy Horse Bar,"a famous burlesque house on East Colfax Avenue.

Sid was the perfect host. He mingled with the guests, and told jokes on stage before the strip shows.

Everyone from Elvis Presley to Clint Eastwood came to the Crazy Horse, even promoting Eastwood to shoot a scene from his movie “Every Which Way But Loose” there.

Mike King is Sid’s son. He’s a long-time dentist in New York City and a part time standup comic.

As for the “Fifth Dentist” part of the title, Mike says you have to remember the old commercial: “4 out of 5 dentists recommend chewing sugarless gum. I’m the 5th dentist,” Mike said. “I don’t care if you chew regular gum or no gum”.

Mike says the play is a love story that he wrote as a tribute to his dad.

“My dad found passion in everything he did,” Mike said. “I wrote this play to honor him and premiering it in Denver is the perfect homecoming.”

The play is scheduled for Saturday, August 6 at 7 p.m. at the Studio Loft inside the Denver Performing Arts Center.

Ticket sales will benefit Children’s Hospital, Sid King’s favorite charity.

Mike would love to take the play on the road or maybe Off Broadway, but first up is the Denver premier.
