Trooper Cody Donahue died for no good reason.

His family said so today.

The Colorado State Patrol will gather to bury him tomorrow - the third trooper hit and killed in the line of duty in the last year and a half.

Trooper Donahue made a deal with Colorado when he put on the badge - that he was willing to die for any number of good reasons - to protect you - or me.

But he died for no good reason - because a driver couldn't be bothered to do the simplest thing to protect him.

To move over a lane as the law requires - and let a first responder work.

Do not mistake this for all the news these days that makes you feel powerless in the face of tragedy.

You have all of the power.

To slow down, and move over, when you see emergency lights.

To remind your friends and family...

That it's the law.

That his name was Trooper Cody Donahue.

That he had a wife and two little girls.

Whose hearts -- they say -- are forever broken.

Tell your friends to move over - tell them to tell their friends to move over - and then - perhaps - some day -- we'll be able to say - even if there's no sense in it - there was at least a good reason.
