DENVER — Initial design plans are coming together for the 5280 loop. The 5.28-mile loop would be a trail mainly designed for bicyclists and walkers.
It would circle downtown -- connecting Coors Field and the 16th Street Mall.
There was a meeting at Union Station Wednesday night to come up with a design concept for a section of the loop that would run along Wynkoop Street in LoDo.
The Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) will be holding four more community workshops for different areas of the loop this week. The idea is to come up with an initial design, function plans, and ideas for accommodations.
"We're about halfway through the conceptual design and by the end of summer we hope to have a conceptual design of the entire 5.28-mile loop around downtown Denver," said Adam Perkins, the Urban Planning Manager for the DDP.
On Thursday, officials will meet in the Golden Triangle to discuss that neighborhood's section.
They hope to be ready to begin construction by 2020. It would be a five to ten-year project to complete.
