It's almost time for the 10th annual Shred-A-Thon!
All those forms and other papers stacking up on your desk or counter can finally be shredded on Saturday, May 13.
9NEWS and Shred-it, Inc. will be shredding papers at six locations throughout the Denver metro starting at 7 a.m. (6 a.m. at our 9NEWS location), and going until noon.
The whole thing raises money for Metro Denver Crime stoppers, and is the agency's largest fundraiser of the year.
“Crime Stoppers is such a benefit for our community at large here in the Denver metro area,” Danny Young with ‘Shred it" said. “The money that comes in from the Shred-A-Thon and other events from them throughout the year go to pay the anonymous tipsters and incentivize them to report the crimes.”
Last year, that meant shredding 500,000 pounds of paper while raising over $100,000 to help fight crime in our community.
What can people bring to the Shred-A-Thon?
“People can bring up to three file boxes or three kitchen trash bags full of their confidential material and we’ll be happy to shred it for them,” Young said. “The shredders can handle staples, paper clips, and binder clips.”
And what shouldn’t you bring to the Shred-A-Thon?
“Absolutely not electronics. No batteries, those can cause fires in a shred truck quickly. We want to keep those things out of the way,” Young said.
