In downtown Silverthorne, Kevin Sayler with Snow For Life and his crew are about the only people in Colorado shoveling snow right now.

They’re working to put in features and jumps for the Silverthorne Rail Jam.

“We are pretty excited for the first Friday Silverthorne Rail Jam,” said Sayer.

It hasn’t been easy thanks to a tough snow year around Colorado.

In Breckenridge, weather watcher Rick Bly says on top of a low snowpack, warm weather and high winds have melted the snow that’s fallen.

“Warm temperatures and wind will eat up a lot of snow,” he said.

Bly says at his weather station he hasn’t seen many big storms, just a series of smaller storms.

“I think we have only had four inches or more 13 times during the winter which is unusual,” said Bly.

Despite the challenges, Silverthorne was able to truck in enough snow for a Rail Jam.

“The town of Silverthorne was able to bring in 110 dump trucks loads of snow which is about 2000 yards worth,” said Sayer.

Keeping Sayler, his crew and a lot of competitors sliding into April.

“We’re going to have almost 80 riders,” said Sayer.

The Silverthorne Rail Jam starts at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, and includes a concert and prizes.
