SeaWorld is putting the finishing touches on a new roller coaster that the park says will be the tallest and fastest coaster in San Diego.

On the Electric Eel, riders will soar 150 feet and accelerate to more than 60 mph.

Electric Eel will feature a "triple-launch experience with high-energy twists, heart-pounding loops and the only upside-down view of Mission Bay," SeaWorld touts. The coaster will make riders feel like an eel as they slither around the track.

On Wed. Jan. 17, SeaWorld San Diego revealed the ride car for Electric Eel, slated to open summer 2018.

SeaWorld patrons will also be able to learn about moray eels at a habitat exhibit next to the new coaster.

At a ceremony this week to celebrate the topping out of the steel installation, the park said the coaster should be ready for riders this summer.

SeaWorld San Diego celebrated the completion of steel installation for the Electric Eel by placing an American flag at the highest point.
