Colorado company makes wine for cats (sort of)

Yes, this is actually a thing.

Yes, this is actually a thing.

A company in Colorado hopes to capitalize on both people’s love for wine as well as their propensity for spending money on their animals by pioneering wine for cats.

Once again: this is actually a thing.

The company is Apollo Peak, and no, the cat wine does not actually have alcohol – or even grapes, for that matter.

Instead, the product (which costs $4.95 for a taster and $11.95 for an 8-meownce bottle) is made of “all-natural organically grown catnip, fresh beets and natural preservatives.”

TLDR: It’s more expensive than three-buck Chuck.

The wine varieties are called "Pinot Meow" and "The MosCATo."

According to the FAQ on Apollo Peak’s website, the drink should be served at room temperature, because cats tend not to like cold beverages.

So unfortunately, it appears that enjoying a chilled white wine while patio-drinking with your cat may perhaps be out of the question, if it wasn’t already.

At this point (if you’re still reading this article about wine for cats), you might wonder to yourself: “Ok, so this won’t get my cat drunk. What will this do to my cat?”

Here’s what it says on Apollo Peak’s website:

Well, depending on how much they drink - the effects will vary. When cats smell catnip, they tend to get funny, move around and play a lot. The exact opposite occurs when they ingest catnip. They normally will become more "mellowed" out when they drink the wine so it might actually help for those restless nights.

Once again: This is actually a thing. But that shouldn’t come as a shock: There’s currently a Kickstarter floating around Colorado aimed at funding a Denver cat bar. Wine (or, sort of wine) for our cats may be the next logical step, since this is Colorado and we're into these things.

Though most of the country has to make their cat wine purchase online (or take the time to schedule a cat wine-related road trip), Colorado currently has three stores that sell it. There’s also a location in New York. You can check out Apollo Peak’s website here: http://www.apollopeak.com/

To end this, here’s a blog on Apollo Peak’s website to help you determine if your cat is a Niphead, which is also apparently a thing: http://bit.ly/260YTRz
