Hurricane Matthew has destroyed many homes and lives, including those of many pets.

The ASPCA asked the Dumb Friends League in Denver if they would help animals displaced by the hurricane.

Within a day of the request, a team of four trained DFL staff traveled to Georgia and South Carolina to help.

Some of the hurricane damage DFL staff cleaned up.

Over the weekend, the team helped clean up debris and prepare shelters for lost pets on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

In addition to sheltering, the staff will help feed and care for the displaced pets until they can be reunited with their families.

The DFL staff plans to stay there as long as they need to.
