Complaining about lots of people moving to Colorado is basically the state pastime, but other states are actually growing faster.

That’s according to a report by 24/7 Wall Street, which reviewed the one-year population change of all 50 states with data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Colorado is the seventh fastest-growing state, with overall population growth of 1.7 percent, according to 24/7 Wall Street.

Much of that growth came from “domestic migration,” or people coming to Colorado from other states.

24/7 Wall Street says that since 2006, Colorado’s population has increased by 17.4 percent – the fastest pace of any state other than Texas and Utah.

The states that 24/7 Wall Street’s analysis found were growing faster? Oregon, Washington, Florida, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.

Utah is the fastest-growing state, with a growth rate of 2 percent. It’s partially attributed to the state’s high birth rate and low death rate, 24/7 Wall Street found, but thousands of people move to Utah each year as well.

Many of the fastest shrinking states, meanwhile, were on the East Coast, including New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont and West Virginia.

Colorado’s northern neighbor, Wyoming, also made the list of the fastest-shrinking states. The list says that more people in Wyoming died than were born, and many other residents also moved out of the state.
