Cincinnati tech company to deploy 'everywhere Wi-Fi' to 25 cities, including Denver

The network operates on 5th-generation wireless systems (5G) infrastructure, which is proposed as the next-generation telecommunication standard.
Nathan Ellis, founder and CEO of Viaggi Broadband, expects to deploy the company's "Everywhere Network" within 90 days. PROVIDED

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - A fast-growing broadband company has partnered with one of the largest electric power holding companies in the U.S. to fulfill its promise of gigabit-speed Wi-Fi in public spaces in 25 cities, including Denver.

Greater Cincinnati-based Viaggi Broadband, which in 2017 launched its "fiber over air" home internet service, will use lighting assets from Charlotte, N.C.-based Duke Energy Corp. (NYSE: DUK) to deploy 5G microwave antennas throughout the city. Dubbed the "Everywhere Network," Viaggi plans to expand secured Wi-Fi to subscribers in 25 cities throughout the U.S. and in parts of Canada and Europe within the next 36 to 60 months.

Once operational, the network will let users stay connected to Wi-Fi whenever they leave their home network range.

The agreement with Duke has been in the works since late 2017, Viaggi founder and CEO Nathan Ellis told me. It's the first time that Duke has made its lighting assets available to an outside company for consumer use.
