It's common for veterans to approach education with the confidence that they can do it alone and figure it out as they go along.

And while that's sometimes true, the need for support from a school, and even from fellow veteran students, is often crucial to ensuring vets graduate and go on to a career.

That support is one of the things Military Times looked at when compiling its "Best for Vets: Colleges 2017" rankings released Wednesday.

The annual rankings list 130 four-year colleges that offer strong support and good academic environments for veteran students.
