Door to Door Organics, a Louisville-based online grocery-delivery service launched 20 years ago, announced today it has ceased operations.

The company made the announcement in a posting on its website.

“In the end, it’s hard to point to one thing that led us to this conclusion,” the announcement said. “Ultimately timing of recent events in our industry and the impact that had on our funding prospects were not in our favor with the ultimate result being no path forward.”

While the announcement didn’t say so specifically, the online grocery home-delivery business has become crowded with competitors lately in metro Denver and elsewhere, with big players like Amazon.com Inc. and King Soopers parent Kroger Co. and getting into the game.
