Congress boosts spending in areas Trump wanted to cut

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - A $1.3 trillion spending bill speeding through Congress has rejected repeated efforts by the White House to slash funding for energy and transportation programs.

The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to take a final vote on the package Thursday, while the Senate is facing a deadline of midnight on Friday, when the latest budget extension expires.

The 2,232-page bill will fund government through the end of September, the end of the federal government’s 2018 fiscal year.

And where President Donald Trump’s proposals called for deep cuts to energy programs, including the office that supports the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Congress moved in a different direction.
