Kwippo Inc., the Denver maker of a messaging app has raised $2.5 million in seed-round funding, announcing the deal as it launched apps meant to make messaging more expressive

The free Kwippit messaging app provides a custom smartphone keyboard and replaces the standard emoji figures — those winking smiley faces and other emotive images — with more elaborate and varied pictures to give users more ways to express themselves in a message.

Messaging has emerged as the preferred communication platform for younger users in the smartphone era. It’s a large, fragmented market already populated by the likes of Snapchat, Facebook-owned WhatsApp, and many others.
