Denver Press Club to honor newspaper editor Martin Baron with Damon Runyon Award

Marty Baron currently is editor of the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post.

Martin Baron — the newspaper editor who led The Boston Globe when it won the Pulitzer Prize for uncovering priestly sex abuse — will be honored by the Denver Press Club as the 24th recipient of the media organization’s annual Damon Runyon Award.

The work of the Globe’s investigative team on the sex-abuse story was featured in the 2015 Oscar-winning movie Spotlight, which co-starred Liev Schreiber as Baron. The paper’s reporting won the 2003 Pulitzer for Public Service.

Marty Baron currently is editor of the Jeff Bezos-owned Washington Post.

“Great journalism shines a light on people who would otherwise not have their stories told – and it can lead to great impact as we saw with the work of Marty Baron and his teams at The Boston Globe and now The Washington Post,” said club President David Milstead.
