Denver leaders should pursue agribusiness companies that work in the food, animal health and water sectors to fill new buildings at the revamped National Western Center in north Denver, the site of the historic stock show complex, according to a study released Thursday.

AECOM — a professional engineering, consulting and project management company based in Los Angeles with a Denver office — conducted the study, available here, for Denver officials.

Denver should create an “innovation district,” which could offer city, state and federal incentives to companies that locate on or near the new center, the study said, adding that the district might focus on the triangle between the National Western Center, Denver International Airport and Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
