Forbes magazine is out with its inaugural ranking of "America's Top Public Companies" – and the list of 500 companies includes 11 Colorado-based businesses.

And while three of the 11 are part of John Malone's Douglas County-based Liberty empire, Charlie Ergen's satellite-TV company holds down the top spot in the first-ever Forbes 500.

Ergen's Dish Network Corp. scores the highest ranking among Colorado companies, at No. 133 overall.

According to Forbes, Dish (Nasdaq: DISH) has annual sales of $15.1 billion, profit of $1.5 billion, assets of $28.2 billion and market value of $29.5 billion.
