Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is leading a trade mission to the United Arab Emirates, furthering ongoing efforts to establish a nonstop flight between the Mile High City and the Middle Eastern country and to establish more economic ties to the rising regional powerhouse.

Hancock left Thursday with a group of officials from the city, the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, Metro Denver Economic Development Corp., World Trade Center Denver and a host of local colleges. They will return from the UAE on Oct. 26.

During the trip, the delegation will meet with the UAE’s deputy minister of economy to discuss economic diversification and investment strategies and will attend the Dubai Investment Forum, which will highlight strategic investment opportunities in Dubai.

Hancock also will meet with officials from Dubai, the largest city in the country, following a meeting he held with a delegation from the city in Denver in March.
