Today it's just the concrete shell, but by late summer the Amazon fulfillment center in Aurora will have 20 million items, 1,000 employees and 75 bays with trucks coming and going all day long.
Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) construction managers on Friday morning gave some Aurora elected officials and members of the media a sneak peak inside the 1 million square foot facility under construction and expected to be completed by late summer.
Amazon already has a 452,000-square-foot operation, called a "sortation center" in Aurora's Majestic Commercenter, at 1-70 and Tower Road. The sortation facility employs several hundred workers.
For locals, the nearby Amazon fulfillment center means orders will get to them more quickly, said Ashley Robinson, spokeswoman for Amazon. And with Amazon's sortation facility just down the road from the fulfillment center, it should allow for Sunday deliveries as well.
