A judge has dismissed a lawsuit by Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman challenging Boulder County's long-standing block on considering new oil and gas operations.

The Longmont Times-Call newspaper reports that Boulder District Judge Norma Sierra last week granted Boulder County's motion to dismiss the suit, which was filed in February.

Attorneys for the county argued that, since its most recent moratorium on processing new oil and gas applications had expired on May 1, the case was now moot.

Dismissal means that the issue of whether Boulder County had a right under state law to impose a moratorium won't be decided for now. The county has imposed a series of such blocks on new oil and gas applications for more than five years.
