A House committee took up a bill that aims to “codify” the language of a controversial legal ruling that’s under review by Colorado’s highest court.

Rep. Joe Salazar, the Democrat from Thornton who’s also running for attorney general, said Thursday’s he’s confident his proposal, HB 1071, will clear its first committee hearing in the Democrat-controlled House.

But he’s less sure the bill will clear the Republican-held Senate.

“I can count votes,” Salazar said Thursday at a press conference prior to the bill’s hearing before the Colorado House’s Health, Insurance & Environment Committee.
