In a deal worth $8 billion, Samsung Electronics acquired Harman International Industries on Monday in an effort to reach consumers inside their cars.

The South Korean electronics company, which recently recalled its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, said it hopes the acquisition will strengthen its position in the connected technology sector, especially in automotive electronics. The Stamford, Connecticut-based Harman is known for car audio systems that sell under the brand names Harman/Kardon and JBL.
