The fight surrounding the future of the Colorado Energy Office is over

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — The partisan debate that nearly shut down the Colorado Energy Office last year appears to be a complete memory.

Members of the House Transportation and Energy Committee passed a bill to revamp the office and to provide it with sustainable funding by an 11-2 margin Wednesday.

That reiterates in statute that the office, which had a focus in the past on renewable energy and energy-efficiency programs, will promote both traditional and alternative fuel sources while continuing to help residents, businesses, schools and farms to cut down on energy usage and install modern energy technology.

Even after Senate Bill 3, sponsored by Sen. Ray Scott, R-Grand Junction, made it out of the upper chamber of the Legislature by a 34-1 vote in February, there were questions about whether the proposal could pass through the Democrat-dominated House.
