It’s Tuesday morning. If you’re reading this article, you probably live in Colorado – an empirically fun wonderland full of craft beer, dudes with man buns (sorry) and a bounty of outdoor activities.
“We're fun,” you say softly to yourself, as you sip your morning cold brew following an early morning rave and look at Instagram posts of your boozy brunch atop a scenic mountaintop (I’m stereotyping a little here … sorry again).
An arbitrary internet ranking released by Wallethub on Tuesday agrees with you … to a point. Colorado is the third most fun state, according to the ranking, behind Nevada (that’s where Las Vegas is, so you can’t argue) and … South Dakota?
The methodology involved 22 key metrics, including restaurants, movie theaters, fitness centers, access to national parks and casinos per capita.
Colorado came in ninth for casinos per capita, for what it’s worth. And tied for first for skiing per capita, which may come as a shock to folks who have never noticed that we have mountains.
9NEWS Web Producer Bobbi Sheldon hails from South Dakota, and offered some comment about her home state's fun factor. Here's what she said via text message (because she's a nice person):
"As for Dakota, the eight months of winter and -20 degree wind chills are totally worth it because we've got a neat jazz festival each July. Sheryl Crowe even headlined one year. Also, you don't have to look far for a cheap dive bar. Which is great because South Dakotans love a good Red Bear (Bud or Coors Light mixed with tomato juice). Kayaking down the Big Sioux River is another favorite for Eastern South Dakotans in the spring and summer. Then you have all the fun of Mount Rushmore, the Badlands and the Sturgis bike rally west of the Missouri!"
If that's not a ringing endorsement, nothing else is.
BRB: Moving to South Dakota.
