Is Denver done? Amazon is showing prime interest in another area in HQ2 search

Amazon says HQ2 could eventually employ 50,000 well-paid workers. It is expected to announce a location later this year.

As metro Denver and 19 other cities across North America compete for Amazon.com Inc.'s $5 billion second headquarters, the e-commerce titan seems to be focusing a lot of attention on one area in particular.

Amazon executives spent last week touring sites in and around Washington, D.C., the Washington Post reports.

The paper -- which just happens to be owned by Amazon founder and chief executive Jeff Bezos -- calls it "the latest sign that the tech giant is seriously considering" building HQ2 in the D.C. area.

The Amazon team in succession visited northern Virginia, Washington itself and Montgomery County, Maryland, the Post says. The three locations -- all in the greater D.C. area -- are among the 20 finalists for HQ2 that analysts announced in January, as is Denver.
