Heartland Catfish Company in Mississippi is recalling approximately 69,000 pounds of catfish products because they may be contaminated with "a residue of public health concern."

The residue that may affect the catfish is leucomalachite green, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

The catfish products, including fresh, frozen and raw items, were produced on February 16, 2018. The items were shipped to retail locations in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Texas and Vermont. The marker “EST. 45777” inside the USDA mark of inspection can be found on the products.

A test on March 8 found "violative" levels of the chemical leucomalachite green in the products.

Consumers who have the catfish should not consume them and throw them away or seek a refund at the place of purchase.
