A drug used to treat type-2 diabetes is being recalled because of a microbial contamination.
Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (or Sun Pharma) is recalling two lots of the drug Riomet (metformin hydrochloride oral solution).
Testing revealed the drug to have a microbial contamination (Scopulariopsis brevicaulis). Use of the contaminated Riomet could result in a risk of infection, according to the FDA.
Riomet is packaged in 118 mL (4 fl. oz.) and 473 mL (16 fl. oz.) bottles. The recalled Riomet includes the products with NDC Code 10631-206-01, Lot A160031A with the expiration of 01/2018 and NDC 10631-206-02, Lot: A160031B with the expiration 01/2018.
Consumers with the recalled Riomet should stop using the solution and contact their doctor.
