More than 5,000 firefighters are battling wildfires threatening several communities across the southeastern part of the U.S.
Now, they are getting some help from Colorado.
The Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) has sent one of its two Multi-Mission Aircraft's (MMA) and additional ground resources to help fight the fires North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee.
Tens of thousands of acres have already burned.
A crew based in Fort Collins has been dispatched to the George Washington National Forest in Virginia to help surpress any new fires that spark.
Ten firefighters from DFPC, Larimer County, Four Mile Fire Department, Boulder County and the City of Boulder make up the team.
The crew plans to be out there for the next few weeks.
