1984 murder of woman bludgeoned to death still unsolved

The 1984 murder of a 50-year-old woman whose daughter and granddaughter found bludgeoned to death inside her home remains unsolved to this day – and DNA evidence connects the killer to the brutal murder of a family in Aurora.

Lakewood Police sent out a bulletin about the murder of Patricia Louise Smith on Wednesday in hopes of tracking down new leads.

Smith was bludgeoned to death sometime between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Jan. 10, 1984, according to Lakewood Police.

DNA evidence found on the scene connected the case to the Bennett family murders.

On the night of Jan. 16, 2984 the killer entered the Bennett’s home and fatally stabbed and bludgeoned 27-year-old Bruce Bennett and sexually assaulted and bludgeoned his wife, Debra.

He then sexually assaulted and fatally beat 7-year-old Melissa Bennett and shattered the face of 3-year-old Vanessa Bennett. She survived.
