A Fort Lupton man accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal wrong-way wreck was formally charged on Wednesday.
Alex Rodriguez, 25, is charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and driving under the influence in connection to the Thanksgiving Day wreck.
Authorities say Rodriguez was seen driving south on I-25 north around 3 a.m. in Weld County. A deputy who saw him tried to get Rodriguez's attention, but he didn't stop and ultimately crashed into two teens near milemarker 231.
The driver of the car Rodriguez hit, a 16-year-old from Windsor, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but his current condition is unknown. Passenger Kyle Nackos, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rodriguez suffered minor injures. but later booked into the Weld County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
He's scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15.
