Arvada officers shoot, kill suspect in Wheat Ridge

His name has not been released, and police are still trying to determine if the suspect was armed.

A man is dead after he was shot by police in Wheat Ridge on Sunday evening.

It happened at West 48th Avenue and Kipling Street. Although the shooting happened in Wheat Ridge, it was Arvada Police Department officers who opened fire.

APD said it was called to a shopping center on a report of a suspicious vehicle just before 5:30 p.m. Officers say when they approached the car, they realized the suspect was wanted on several felony warrants.

That's when they say he took off -- first in his car, then on foot.

Officers followed him into Wheat Ridge onto the Interstate 70 frontage road where there was a foot chase and the suspect was shot and killed.

His name has not been released, and police are still trying to determine if he was armed.

No officers were injured, and there is no search for any other suspects.

Further details about the shooting are limited at this time, but there will be a press briefing about this incident on Monday morning.
