Prosecutors say a Colorado Springs police officer was justified when he shot and killed an armed man in a shopping center parking lot.
The district attorney's office announced Tuesday the officer was acting reasonably and appropriately when he shot 25-year-old Josiah Williams on June 22.
The Gazette reports Williams was holding a can of beer when he refused to drop a gun he had pointed several times at the officer. Williams fired one round at the officer but missed, prompting the officer to return fire.
Williams, who was hit in the abdomen, died at a hospital. An autopsy determined that he died from a single gunshot wound and had alcohol and methamphetamine in his system.
