Police in Littleton are searching for a woman who allegedly struck an officer during a stolen car investigation on Belleview Avenue Wednesday afternoon.
On Thursday, police provided a photo of the vehicle and a description to better help the community find the vehicle. It's a blue 1987 Honda Accord four-door with driver-side damage and a Colorado license plate 116YPJ.
If you know anything about the car, please call dispatch at 303-794-1551.
Around noon, an officer ran the plates of a car at a shopping plaza near S. Santa Fe Drive while out on patrol and they came back stolen, says Commander Trent Cooper with Littleton Police.
He called for cover and then went to investigate. Cooper says this is something they do often to find and recover stolen cars abandoned in parking lots.
When officers approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated at officers and hit one, Cooper says.
That officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries more out of an abundance of caution than anything else. He's been released with minor bumps and bruises.
"Certainly, he's going to be a little sore, but we're thankful he wasn't more seriously injured than he was," Cooper says.
Officers on scene then shot at the sedan after it hit a fellow officer, but the driver was able to flee the scene. Police say the sedan was last seen going north on S. Santa Fe Drive at Hampden Avenue.
An investigation into the driver's identity is ongoing - police say they only know the suspect is a Hispanic woman with dyed blonde hair, 25 - 30 years old and with a large build.
The alleged stolen vehicle has significant body damage, according to officers. It is an older model, dark blue sedan - possibly a Honda or Buick.
