An inmate at the Cheyenne Mountain Re-Entry Center in Colorado Springs was pronounced dead Sunday from injuries he sustained in an assault almost a week before.
The Colorado Department of Corrections identified the inmate who died as Daniel Pena, 64.
They say he was assaulted on Nov. 20th at the reentry center at 2925 Las Vegas St.
According to the Colorado Department of Corrections online database, Pena was sentenced to four years in prison in August 2014. He had been convicted of second-degree assault, and was eligible for parole in October 2018.
His release date would have been March 21, 2019.
Pena’s death is being investigated as a homicide, according to a news release from the DOC.
No suspects in his death were named.
