A man was taken into custody Sunday after a two-and-a-half hour standoff at a business in the 1600 block of Laporte Avenue in Fort Collins.

Around 6:02 a.m., Fort Collins 911 received a call from a person who saw a man burglarizing a business.

Officers responded and learned the man, identified as Richard Rader, 34, was still in the business.

Rader tried to leave the scene, but went back inside after officers tried to make contact with him. He then refused to leave the building.

A SWAT team was called in to assist.

Rader tried to leave the scene again and the SWAT team deployed pepperballs, a chemical agent, to prevent him from escaping.

Officers were then able to take him into custody.

He was arrested for second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and violation of bail bond conditions.

According to police, Rader was arrested in Fort Collins on Sept. 7 for a burglary that happened in August. Charges for this incident included second-degree burglary, theft, criminal mischief and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into Larimer County Jail, posted bail and is awaiting court for those charges.
