A Laporte man was arrested Monday after allegedly kicking a Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputy in the throat and trying to kick two other deputies who were responding on a welfare check.

LCSO deputies responded to the 3300 block of Burns Street around 1:45 a.m. to check on the welfare of a man who was reportedly intoxicated and making threats of self-harm, according to a LCSO release.

Deputies placed Tyler Jerome Simmons, 27, in protective custody. He allegedly began kicking the window while he was in the back of a patrol vehicle and kicked one of the deputies in the throat when they attempted to prevent him from harming himself or the vehicle.

The deputy suffered minor injuries and was cleared by medical staff at a local hospital.
