An 11-year-old boy was shot and killed in Fruitvale on Saturday night.

While law enforcement is not saying what led up to the shooting, they did arrest a 41-year-old man who is not related to the victim.

Family members identified the 11-year-old as Caden Randolph.

After the shooting, Jeremy Mushrush, 41, of Grand Junction gave a statement to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office but he was not arrested. Sunday morning deputies arrested Mushrush after he agreed to turn himself in.

Mushrush faces felony charges of manslaughter and attempting to influence a public servant, as well as a misdemeanor weapons charge.

Sunday, friends and family set up a small memorial where the 11-year-old was killed.

"He was an overachiever. He had his days. He was an excellent kid. He got along with everyone in the neighborhood," Caden's mother Krista Leonard told television station KKCO.

"Me and my brother just lost one of our really close friends and it shouldn't be this way," friend Aubrianna Franklin said.

Family members are not saying what led up to the shooting or how Mushrush and the boy knew each other.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says the case has been sealed by the court.
