Law enforcement arrested 308 drivers for DUI Halloween weekend, up from 269 arrests in 2015.

The arrests were part of a collaboration between the Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol and statewide law enforcement agencies as part of The Heat is On campaign.

Ninety-four agencies participated in the enforcement period. The most arrests were made by CSP, 50 arrests, Denver Police, 30 arrests, Aurora Police, 27 arrests and the Colorado Springs Police, 26 arrests.

DUI offenders can be punished with up to one year in jail, thousands of dollars in fines and a nine-month license suspension. CDOT says that, on average, after fines, attorney fees and the increase in insurance costs, a DUI can cost more than $10,000.

The Heat is On campaign will return Nov. 23 for the Thanksgiving weekend. In 2015, 283 drivers were arrested.
