Reward for info about vet killed in Denver last year up to $12,000

Last year, Richard "Gene" Hammond, a retired Marine major and grandfather, was killed in Denver. His case remains unsolved and the reward for information leading to an arrest has been upped to $12,000, according to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

Richard "Gene" Hammond was found shot and killed on Valentine's Day 2017 in Denver. The grandfather and retired Marine major's case remains unsolved almost two years later. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers announced on Sunday the reward for information in the case has been upped to $12,000.

Hammond left his home on the morning of Feb. 14, 2017, near Bruce Randolph and York Street in Denver around 3:30 or 4 a.m. to get to his job in Fountain, Crime Stoppers says. He was in his 2012 Subaru Impreza.

He never made it to work, according to Crime Stoppers.

Hammond and his car were found about a mile from his house. He'd been shot dead.
