Summit County Sheriff's Office investigating violent Facebook threat

Officials determined that no threats were made specifically to Summit County, CO but officials will continue investigating the incident.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit School District are investigating a Facebook threat potentially made against schools in the area.

The violent threat was also posted to Snapchat. It did not specify Summit County, Colorado as the target. However, the Summit County Sheriff’s took the threat seriously, as several people contacted the Summit High School Dean of Students who reported the concerns to the sheriff’s office.

On Thursday morning, the Summit County Sheriff’s office increased law enforcement’s presence at Summit High School and Summit Middle School as students arrived. Sheriff’s deputies did not find anything out of the ordinary during their search of the schools. As a precaution, law enforcement will remain onsite throughout the day.

The threat remains under active investigation by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office and federal law enforcement partners. The threats are also being investigated in possible connection to Summit County, Ohio and Frisco, Texas.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging parents and students to report concerns of this nature promptly.
