Westminster Police have a suspect in custody in connection with a Wednesday night homicide.

At about 10:50 p.m., police received a call about a possible shooting in the area of 5500 79th Avenue, according to Westminster Police spokesperson, Cheri Spottke.

Police arrived at the scene to find a woman dead from a gunshot wound and an SUV leaving the scene.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle using stop strips in the area of 112th Avenue and Federal Bulevard, Investigator Spottke said in a press release.

Spottke said the two people inside the vehicle got out and ran into a nearby neighborhood.

A CodeRed notification was sent to residents of the neighborhood, according to Spottke.

After further investigation, police determined that the people inside the SUV were not directly related to the shooting.

Ezekiel Mark Garcia, 24, later turned himself in at the Thornton Police Department. He was arrested and faces charges for first-degree homicide.
